- As you review the following online material, you should begin to develop a "critical eye" towards the Internet and online content. You should take notes on the material presented.
- (Tues/Wed) Review and study the following websites related to criteria for web site evaluation: (You will find links to both under the Web/Tech on your Firefox Tollbar Menu.)
- Kathy Schrock's ABC's of Web Site Evaluation
- Evaluation Criteria from "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly: or, Why It's a Good Idea to Evaluate Web Sources"
- (Wed/Thurs) Visit and explore the EchoEcho web site with a critical eye gained from a review of the websites above
- (Due Thursday by end of period) Complete the Web Evaluation Form (Website Evaluation Form) online using the EchoEcho site.
- DO NOT forget to fill in your complete name on the form - upper-right corner (if you have to re-print it will lower your grade)
- To review your work, click on "Show me my NetCheck page!" when complete
- Print your netcheck page when complete
Assignment #2
- Explore the Web Standards Projects (WaSP) website. Study and evaluate the site with a critical eye. You should explore all facets of the site , and take notes as you do .
- Write a 1-2 page evaluation of the site. Use the Evaluation Criteria (Authority | Accuracy | Objectivity | Currency | Coverage) from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly web evaluation sebsite to guide your evaluation/critique.
- Your critique should begin with an overall explanation and description of the site. This should entail a clear explanation of the site's purpose and a general description of the site's functional layout and design. You should describe how the information or resources offered by the site are being presented.
- Use the attached MS Word template, which should be downloaded and saved to your folder.
- Assignment Title: The Web Standards Project Website: A Critical Evaluation (title should be Arial, 14 pt, bold, underlined, centered)
- Use Arial font, 12 pt. for this assignment. Format paragraphs as follow: 1.5 line spacing with 6pt spacing after paragraph.
- Set your page margins as follows: Top 1.5"; Bottom, Left, & Right 1"
- Your critiques should be at least one page long, but do not exceed two pages. If your work exceeds two pages, you should edit your work to achieve greater conciseness. Points will be deducted for work which exceeds the two page limit.
- The assignment is due by the end of Thursday's class session, January 15 - 3pm. Please submit your work via email as an attachment. Your email should contain a formal subject and message.
Assignment #3
- This is a group assignment. Mr. Merriman will assign groups and group names.
- You will recieve an e-mail. Your assignment is to use the attached checklist to evaluate a particular type of website. Each group will be assigned a different type of website to evaluate.
- This work should be divided among your members fairly. You should each keep your own copy of the assignment and then use copy/paste to compile your group work for submission and presentation.
- The Assignment:
- First, as a group (you may do this individually, but I recommend you do it as a group) you should view and study the PowerpPoint presentation on Website Evaluation attached to this email.
- Second, each member should download and save a copy of the attached "Website Evaluation Checklist". (add your name to file, ex: Website Evaluation Checklist - Jonathan)
- Review the checklist to see what you need to fill in and complete as a group project.
- Third, go to the Website Evaluation Checklist assigned to your group. You will use the checklist as a guide in your responses. You should try to answer all questions posed on your group's chekclist.
- Your responses are to be in paragraph form. I am looking for good prose writing: good grammar, sentence/paragraph construction, solid mechanics.
