Introduction to Computers, Middle School (Period 1)
Course Description
The purpose of this letter is to introduce myself and give you an overview of the course I am offering: Introduction to Computers for Middle School, Room 208.
As an introductory course, the goal will be to provide students with a broad overview of computers and related technologies, with a focus on increasing their understanding, appreciation and skill with these technologies. This is a year long course.
Curriculum
The curriculum will consist of three main components.
Objectives - Students will gain a minimum proficiency with and general understanding of:
1 Touch Typing/Keyboarding Skills
2 Applications (Programs: Word Processing, Graphics, Internet, Email, etc.)
3 Concepts & Issues in the Field of Computer Technology
Grading Policy
Your child’s overall academic grade for this class will be based on a Standard Scale, as follows:
100-90%=A, 89-80%=B, 79-70%=C, 69-60%=D, Below 60%=Fail
All student assignments, projects and activities will be given a specific point value.
Dividing points earned by the number of points possible will calculate student percentages.
Tardy Policy
- Students are expected to be in their seat at bell (only 1 is forgiven)
- 2 tardies = “S” in Work Habits
- 3 tardies = “U” in Work Habits
- Additional tardies may result in standards, parent contact and/or detention
Standards for Written Work
- All written work should have a standard heading and title, & use blue or black ink
- Papers should have left and right margins and spaces between answers
- All written work should be legible, cursive or printing are acceptable
Classroom Rules and Policies
Standards for Student Behavior and Appearance are outlined in the LACES Pride Code of Conduct Agreement and the Antibullying Policy found in the Student Handbook and will be enforced in this classroom. Therefore, students and parents are expected to review and be aware of these standards found on pages 4 & 5.
